Service is an essential component of the Religious Studies Department. Each class is expected to perform a required number of service hours in the community as the “faith in action” part of class.
We have responded to homes destroyed by fire, families in need, local disasters, parish dinners, liturgical functions, and faith formation assistance.
Each grade has a required number of service hours to complete each year in order to fulfill their Religious Studies requirement. Various service opportunities are made available to students through school-wide service projects and the Service Fair.
Service Hour Requirements by grade level:
7th Grade: 10 hours
8th Grade: 12 hours
9th Grade: 16 hours
10th Grade: 24 hours
11th Grade: 32 hours
12th Grade: 40 hours
The first annual service fair took place in September 2015. Various organizations from the Syracuse area joined students in the gymnasium. Students were able to go table to table, finding out information about each organization. They were also able to sign up to volunteer.
Sport Team Service Projects
Each sport team at Bishop Ludden is required to do a team service project to give back to the community and promote team-bonding.
School-wide Service Projects
Each academic school year, the Campus Ministry Department heads a school-wide service project. These consist of bringing in donations, dress down days, and community clean-up. Organizations we have helped in the past include Tabs for Tots, Meals on Wheels, and Joseph’s House among many others.
