Big Brothers Big Sisters

Bishop Ludden students are reaching out to local fourth grade students from Seymour Magnet and Van Duyn Elementary School with the help of alumni H. Robert Rice ’66 (Deputy Director of P.E.A.C.E. Inc.) and Oscar Vergara ’72 (Youth Services Director, Big Brothers Big Sisters).

These students are working together in a school-based mentoring program to provide positive role models for the local elementary school students.  The Little Brothers and Sisters visit Bishop Ludden to interact, play games, receive help with their homework and, most importantly, enjoy one-to-one friendships with their Big Brothers and Sisters.

In 2001, Bishop Ludden became the first school-based Big Brothers Big Sisters program in Central New York.  In that first year, 22 elementary students from city schools were being mentored by high school students from Bishop Ludden.  Most recently, our students have provided 3,350 mentoring hours during the school year.
